Halloween night was the usual colourful event with lots of children out and about strutting a plethora of interesting and varied costumes. There were also plenty of firework displays to delight the onlookers. Things got a bit out of hand when a group of teenagers started throwing fireworks (both rockets and bangers) at each other as well as at houses and cars in Cluain Mhor, obviously they were unaware of the potential harm that these explosive devices can do to person and property. At one point a Garda patrol car was seen driving through the village and various estates.
The fireworks fell silent around 12:30am. Maybe next year all those with fireworks could meet at some disused land and set up an organised display and try to ensure that young children are not allowed to roam the streets unsupervised with fireworks. As each year passes these fireworks seem to get louder, or maybe I'm just getting older but I would ask those who are in charge of fireworks to spare a thought for young children and weary parents and try to ensure they wrap things up at a reasonable time. Yes, I've just read over this paragraph and it's official... I'm getting old. |
