24 Hours a day... in ((STEREO))
Here are photos of my mum, granny and aunt, the one with the nun is my granny when she was younger and the nun was a cousin of my mothers. I dont know where this was taken.
My mother was born in 1928 and lived in Clonmellon until she emigrated to England circa1948.
Her name was Gretta Smyth and her siblings were Bridget, Jimmy and Oney.
My grandfather was known as "Big Jim" the woodcutter, my grandmother was Mary Jane Smyth, she passed away in 1956, her remains were burried in the church graveyard. I am trying to trace my family tree on my mothers side but unfortunately cannot gain access to any records. I have visited Clonmellon several times and spoke to a lady Nora McCormack and her brother John, both of whom were childhood friends of my mother. I have had no contact with Nora for some time and suspect she too may have passed away.
The photo of mum and granny was taken in about 1948 just before she came to England. ( I must point ot that my mum was Albino) The ones of my aunt I'm guessing is about 1950, she came to England (Birmingham) to do her nurse training, and met her husband there who was also Irish. They got married and returned to Ireland where they took over his fathers farmin Bantry. My aunt never returned to England exept to visit mum.
My mother may have been registered under the name Margaret Mary Smyth.
The photo of mum and granny was taken outside the family home in Clonmellon, and from the garage looking towards Meath was on the left , with a large tree at the side of the house.
If anybody may have some piece of information, no matter how small please contact me through this website.
Many thanks Mrs M. Hughes
