Fluoride in our drinking water

Every so often this discussion pops up and is brushed away by our government with their "We know what's best for you" attitude, I recently became aware (once again) of the dangers associated with this Poison which is added to our drinking water.  It is banned in other European countried and even banned in Northern Ireland but we down south still have to endure this non essential poison being forced into our water without giving us the choice whather we want it there or not.

The effects of this poison are well documented in various studies around the world,  perhaps this is a topic that could be mentioned to our politicians when they come knocking on our doors licking our backsides and promising the sun, moon and stars  so we will vote for them.

I am NOT scaremongering, I could quote various pieces of information here but I won't, Instead  I invite you to do some research for yourself and see what you find, if you have anything to add either agreeing or disagreeing with what I am saying please e-mail me and I will add ALL comments here, alternatively pop along to the forum on this site and leave your comments there.

It is worth noting that the my personal interpretation on the Department of health's stance seems to be according to information on their site is that anybody questioning Fluoride in the water is just swallowing all the propoganda they read on the internet and that in their opinion it's completely safe.

As of 2-6-2009 I have contacted Bernie Comaskey, Marian Harkin, Michael McNamara, Westmeath County Council and the Minister for health in relation to my fears relating to Fluoride, so far Bernie Comaskey and Westmeath CoCo are the only ones to reply.  Bernie has promised to look into this issue (after the election) whether or not he is elected.

PRESS RELEASE 31/07/2002

BELGIUM TO BAN FLUORIDE PRODUCTS!

Yesterday, the Belgium Health Ministry confirmed it was banning fluoride tablets and fluoride chewing gum.(1) This fluoride ban comes after a new health study "found excessive use of fluoride products increased the risk not only of osteoporosis, but of damage to the nervous system too". Osteoporosis causes weakening of bones and can lead to fractures.

Belgium does not have water fluoridation but in Ireland 75% of the population’s water supply is dosed with chemical fluoride, in addition to these fluoride products. It is therefore no surprise that Ireland has one of the highest osteoporosis rates in Europe. Unfortunately, our Minister of Health is not interested in the effects of increasing fluoride consumption, instead Minister Martin is hiding behind a biased, shambolic Forum which is now 11 months overdue.

It is also interesting that the Belgian health ministry commissioned this health study into the effects of fluoride when our Minister of Health has consistently failed to do so. This refusal contravenes the current legislation, which requires the minister to study the health effects of fluoridation. In forty years of water fluoridation in Ireland, there has never been a health study.

Dr. Don Mac Auley, spokesperson for Irish Dentists Opposing Fluoridation, commented, "we should all be concerned by this new research, as we have so much fluoride in our water, our fluoride levels will be higher than the Belgians. Osteoporosis is on the increase in Ireland and with more studies showing fluoride health damage, we need to follow the precautionary principle and stop water fluoridation immediately. Minister Martin must commence health studies or reconsider his position as Minister of Health. As a group of health care professionals, we have a duty to protect public health and therefore we are demanding that Minister Martin fulfil the legislation or resign".

Please check out this report from the TV 3 program 20/20 and judge for yourself if we are being lied to by those in positions of power re Fluoride.

"Hard to Swallow" aired on Ireland's national news program 20/20 on Friday, January 12, 2001. Shortly after the program aired, the country's second largest political party, Fine Gael, pledged to ban fluoridation if elected as the next ruling party. Included below are excerpts from 20/20's program.
