I am seeking any information that may be relevant to my ancestors who came from Clonmellon.
Denis O’Neill died on 23rd June 1843 and was buried in Clonmellon. His occupation was ‘gardener’. His widow Bridget (Quinn) then migrated to Australia with three of her children, Thomas, Mary (my ggrandmother) and Patrick, and arriving in Geelong, Vic in 1849.
Denis and Bridget were married in Castletown, where Bridget was born (daughter of James and Mary Quinn) and they had seven children baptised in Clonmellon between 1815 and 1833.
Any information would be appreciated, eg I realise ‘Castletown’ is a common place name but what might it mean in reference to Clonmellon? Or what might the occupation ‘gardener ‘ signify. Would it be likely that Denis was employed at Killua Castle for example?
