I am related to Mary Bridget Henry & Thomas Barry Mulligan both from Clonmellon Westmeath in 1847

HENRY Mary, arrived in Adelaide, South Australia, on the 2^nd July 1847 on the ship “Trafalgar” from London v Plymouth 18^th March 1847

MULLIGAN Thomas Barry arrived in Adelaide, South Australia, on the 4 Sept 1847 on the ship “Aboukir” from London 20^th May 1847- v Plymouth 1^st June 1847

They may have been recruited / sponsored from the tenants of the estate of Sir Montagu Chapman as he owned property in South Australia at the time.

They were married in Adelaide, South Australia on the 26^th June 1848

A daughter Catherine was born on the 29^th May 1853, at Ballarat, Victoria, Australia which was at the time a Gold mining town

See attached birth certificate for Catherine which states that both Thomas & Mary came from Clonmellon Westmeath

Catherine is my Great Grandmother

I am seeking information for records / family that may be in Clonmellon, in particular any records of correspondence that Thomas & Mary may have written to family remaining in Clonmellon in the late 1800’s

I am hoping that someone may be able to fill in some details of Thomas & Mary lives for me.

Hi Garth, I, too, have a Henry ancestor, and we may be distant relatives. Mine is Jennifer "Genny" Henry, the wife of Peter Maguire and the mother of my great great grandmother Mary Maguire. Mary Maguire was baptized in Clonmellon on 7 Feb 1787, and that means that "Genny" and Peter were probably married earlier in the 1780s and were born in the 1760s. If you get a chance to go to Clonmellon, I highly recommend it. I live in the USA, but I recently visited Clonmellon, and Father Garland was extremely helpful in letting me look at parish records that contained much useful information. Short of that, I recommend visiting the Irish Family History Foundation website. It has millions of church and civil records that are searchable. It costs 5 euro per record to look at the detailed documents, but you can search through the documents and identify likely matches for your ancestors for free. I did just that this morning for you Mulligan and Henry ancestors. I found 5 Thomas Mulligans baptized in County Westmeath between 1815 and 1825. Two of those were baptized in Clonmellon, one in 1815 and the other in 1825. I found 4 Mary Henry's and 2 Mary Henery's baptized in County Westmeath between 1828 and 1835. There was 1 Mary Henry (1835) and 1 Mary Henery (1832) baptized in Clonmellon. I hope this is helpful. Frank Winslow

Hi Frank Thanks for the Information, i will look it up & see what i can find I have since found information on their Deaths in Victoria Australia Thomas died on the 18th Nov 1869 of Typhoid at Emerald Hills now South Melbourne Victoria Australia his parents were James Mulligan & Rose Mulligan nee O'Neil Mary Mulligan nee Henry died on the 12 May 1868 of Typhoid at Emerald Hills now South Melbourne Victoria Australia Her parents were John Henry & Mary henry nee Farmer Regards Garth
