Clonmellon students Skype call to Tambo (Australia)

3 students from Clonmellon National school had a 2 way skype conference with the 4th and 5th graders in Tambo local school, Queensland Australia on Wednesday March 3rd 2010.  The children in Tambo were learning about Ireland and had a big list of questions to ask Samantha McKenna (9), Emma Fullerton (9) and Daniel Fullerton (13) ranging from their favourite Irish food to what games they like to play. They also managed to discuss their various and assorted pets and of course how much they loved Hannah Montanna.

The conference begun at approx 11 pm Irish time (9.00am Tambo time) and children on both sides of the camera got plenty of air time to ask questions, share some common interests and also listen to the very different accents.

The 2 way Skype conference was organised by Karen Bly and Sarah Taylor (teacher),  the call lasted for 45 minutes afterwhich Samantha, Emma and Daniel had to go to bed as they were all up for school on Thursday morning.

It was an interesting link up which would have been fantastic if we could have had it from classroom to classroom but due to the large time difference this was not possible.  We may repeat the link-up again at a later date and try to get as many of Ms McGeough's class to participate as possible.  It was a great oppertunity to watch as children on opposite sides of the world conversed using the Skype(©) technology.
